Dr. Julia Keblinska is a Visiting Professor at the Department of East Asian Languages and Literature at The Ohio State University (OSU). She serves as content co-editor of the Chinese Theater Collaborative (CTC), a digital humanities project exploring theatrical adaptations across media. Her academic roles include multiple postdoctoral fellowships: 'Asian Futures' postdoc (EASC, 2023-24), 'Archival Imaginations' Society of Fellows (2022-23), and an interdisciplinary postdoc at OSU's Center for Historical Research (2021-22). She holds a Ph.D. in Chinese from UC Berkeley with a Designated Emphasis in Film & Media.
Her research focuses on modern Chinese media history, Cold War aesthetics, and postsocialist media cultures. Notable projects include a book manuscript on 1980s China's media-driven market reforms and a collaborative 'Paper Archive' project conceptualizing modern Chinese print culture. She co-edited a special issue of Journal of Chinese Cinemas on 'noise' (2023) and organized major events like the 2022 'Media & Materiality' symposium and 2024 'Asian Futures' lecture series.
Teaching specialties include media theory, Cold War media comparisons between East Asia/Eastern Europe, and research methodologies. Awards include the Polish Studies Initiative Grant supporting work on 'pulpy postsocialism' in 1990s Poland. She has developed digital teaching resources for East Asian cinema and contributed to curriculum design across multiple institutions.
