Julia Heuritsch, M.Sc., is a Researcher at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin's Institute of Social Sciences, affiliated with the Deutsches Zentrum für Hochschul- und Wissenschaftsforschung (DZHW). She holds a Master's in Astronomy from Leiden University (2015-2017) and a Bachelor's in Astrophysics from the University of Vienna (2009-2012). Her research focuses on higher education studies, scientometrics, and the sociology of quantification, particularly examining how evaluation systems influence research practices in astronomy.
She is a core member of the Young Investigator Group 'Reflexive Metrics' (2017–2021), exploring the impact of metrics on scientific value systems. Her work bridges qualitative and quantitative methods, addressing topics like publication pressure, research quality trade-offs, and PhD labor market outcomes. Notable contributions include analyzing the 'evaluation gap' in astronomy and advocating for democratized, participatory evaluation frameworks in academia.
Heuritsch has received the JH Oort Scholarship for academic excellence and collaborated with institutions like the Netherlands Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). Her writings critique metrics-driven research cultures and promote equitable science communication strategies.
