Julia George is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Clemson University's College of Science. She focuses on molecular neurobiology and epigenetics, using zebra finches as model organisms to study how early life experiences influence brain development, cognition, and adaptation to environmental stressors.
- Ph.D. in Molecular Neurobiology, The Rockefeller University (1992)
- B.S. in Biochemistry, Texas A&M University (1987)
Her lab investigates epigenetic mechanisms underlying developmental reprogramming by prenatal acoustic signals, such as heat calls, and their impact on adult cognition and mitochondrial function. Current projects include analyzing neurogenomic responses to social isolation and vocal control systems in songbirds.
She teaches courses like BIOL 4930 - Senior Seminar and BIOL 4200 - Neurobiology, with research supported by grants in neurogenomics and environmental adaptation. Contact: jgeorg4@clemson.edu
