Dr. Julia Evans is a Professor at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), affiliated with the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences. Her research focuses on the neurobiology of language and cognitive processing, particularly implicit learning and memory deficits in children with developmental language disorder (DLD). She leads the Child Language and Cognitive Processes Laboratory and holds faculty status in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
Education: B.A. from University of Colorado, M.A. from Columbia University, Ph.D. from University of Michigan, followed by postdoctoral training at Carnegie Mellon University.
Research emphasizes time-course and cortical activity using neuroimaging techniques like fNIRS, fMRI, and MEG. Key findings reveal atypical neural activation patterns in DLD children during language tasks. Her work addresses cognitive mechanisms underlying language deficits and intervention strategies.
Publications span over 30 years, covering topics like statistical learning, working memory, and neuroimaging applications in language disorders. Current projects include HD tDCS neurorehabilitation studies and cross-linguistic analyses of DLD in Catalan-Spanish/Portuguese populations.
