Julia Chuang serves as Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Maryland, specializing in development, agrarian politics, and migration through ethnographic and interview-based methodologies. Her research examines transnational capital flows in China with particular focus on rural land markets and global investment migration schemes.

Dr. Chuang completed postdoctoral training at Brown University's Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs. Her research integrates Political Sociology and Gender Studies frameworks to analyze labor, citizenship, and capital flows in contemporary China, recently expanding to include computational methods alongside traditional qualitative approaches.
