Dr. Julia Chamberlain is an Associate Professor of Teaching at the University of California, Davis Department of Chemistry. She holds a Ph.D. in solid state inorganic chemistry from Northwestern University and conducted postdoctoral research in Chemical Education with PhET Interactive Simulations at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her current work focuses on developing the new Chemistry for Life Sciences course series, integrating active learning and student-centered pedagogies.
Her research explores chemistry education challenges and technology integration, specifically examining how transformative technologies can enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. She investigates simulation interface design, guidance strategies for simulation interaction, and best practices for technology implementation in large lecture environments.
Dr. Chamberlain received the Donald E. Smith Award for Excellence in 300-Level Teaching from Northwestern University in 2009. Her research has been published in leading chemistry education journals including Chemistry Education Research & Practice and Journal of Chemical Education, covering topics from simulation-based learning to curriculum development.
