Professor Julia Brown is the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Leeds, and Director of the Leeds Institute of Clinical Trials Research and the CRUK Clinical Trials Unit. She holds the academic rank of Professor of Clinical Trials Research and leads the UKCRC Registered Clinical Trials Unit Network. Her roles include Chair of the NIHR HTA General Funding Committee.
She holds a BSc in Statistics and an MSc in Medical Statistics. Her research focuses on innovative clinical trial design, particularly in cancer, patient-reported outcomes, and surgical technique evaluations. She supervises numerous PhD students in clinical trial methodology and patient-reported outcomes analysis.
Her work has earned her NIHR Emeritus Senior Investigator status. Notable contributions include leading the NIFTy trial, a phase II/III study evaluating NIRF imaging to reduce post-thyroid surgery hypoparathyroidism. She actively promotes collaborative, multidisciplinary approaches to clinical research and healthcare improvement.
