Julia Beckmann, M.A., is a researcher at the University of Siegen's Faculty of Business Informatics and New Media, affiliated with the Chair of Business Informatics and New Media. Since June 2023, she has been a research assistant in the FUSION project and the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Ländliche Regionen initiative. Her academic background includes a Master's in Sociology from Goethe University Frankfurt and prior studies in English and Social Sciences (teacher training). Her research focuses on digital media's dual influence on content creators and consumers, particularly analyzing online discourses around Borderline Personality Disorder via ethnographic methods and Critical Theory. Key interests include subjectivation, discourse analysis, social psychology, psychoanalysis, power dynamics, and Science and Technology Studies.
Her work integrates participatory design approaches, as seen in a 2025 publication in i-com exploring socio-robotic systems in orthopedic rehabilitation. This study highlights the potential of music-based exercises and digital applications to enhance patient engagement and therapeutic outcomes. Beckmann has contributed to projects like KontiKat and supported the Empirical Social Research Chair during her studies. She is currently pursuing a dissertation at the University of Vienna examining Instagram Stories' role in shaping mental health discourses.
