Juleen R. Zierath

Juleen R. Zierath serves as Professor of Clinical Integrative Physiology at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, and Professor of Integrative Physiology at Copenhagen University (20% appointment), directing the Strategic Research Program in Diabetes and leading the Section for Integrative Physiology within the Department of Surgical Sciences.

Education:

Her research integrates diabetes, metabolism, endocrinology, and physiology to investigate molecular mechanisms of insulin resistance and exercise-induced metabolic adaptations. She pioneers studies on how physical activity regulates glucose metabolism at cellular levels, bridging basic science with clinical applications for type 2 diabetes treatment through innovative approaches in metabolic flux analysis and molecular signaling.
