Jukka Vayrynen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Purdue University, affiliated with the College of Science. His research focuses on theoretical condensed matter physics, particularly topological quantum materials and their applications in quantum computing. He holds a PhD from Yale University, an MSc from the University of Helsinki, and a BSc from the University of Oulu.
Research interests include topological insulators, superconductor-semiconductor hybrids, and quantum information science. His group employs analytical methods like bosonization, Green functions, and numerical techniques such as exact diagonalization and DMRG. Recent work explores superconducting diode effects, symplectic Kondo models, and Majorana-based quantum computing platforms.
Notable contributions include the 2021 DEPSCoR Award from the US Department of Defense, collaborative projects with experimental groups (e.g., Leonid Rokhinson), and mentoring students like Guangjie Li, Tatiana de Picoli, and Justin Copenhaver.
