Jukka Corander

Jukka Corander is a Professor at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo, and an Associate Faculty member at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. His research focuses on

• microbial evolution and transmission modeling
• statistical machine learning
• population genomics
• inference algorithms for genomic surveillance

of bacterial pathogens.

He leads the Corander lab, which has developed key methods like BAPS, fastbaps, pyseer, and ELFI software for likelihood-free inference. Collaborative projects include

• BATTALION (E. coli systems biology)
• CARDAMOM (infant colonization dynamics)

and computational tools for plasmid typing (mge-cluster, gplas).

His work spans bacterial pangenomics, antibiotic resistance mechanisms, and the development of machine learning approaches for genomic epidemiology.
