Judy Wilkerson

Judy Wilkerson is a Professor in the Department of Teacher Education and Learning Sciences (TELS) at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). She holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Educational Measurement and Research (University of South Florida, 1987), an M.A. in French Studies (The American University, 1975), and a B.A. in International Relations/Western European Studies (The American University, 1973). Her research focuses on educational assessment, teacher dispositions, and accreditation standards, with an emphasis on designing valid and reliable assessment tools.

Dr. Wilkerson has extensive experience as a statewide consultant for program approval with the Florida Department of Education. Her work includes developing rubrics for feedback and evaluation in K-20 education, analyzing teacher dispositions using Rasch models, and exploring cross-cultural comparisons of teacher education programs (e.g., China vs. the U.S.). She has presented at national and international conferences, including the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE) and the American Educational Research Association (AERA), and has conducted research in Mexico and the Philippines.

Her publications span journals like the Journal of Teacher Education and Teachers College Record, focusing on dispositions measurement, feedback models, and accreditation standards. She teaches courses such as EDF 6432 (Foundations of Educational Measurement) and EDF 6481 (Foundations of Educational Research). Her research consistently emphasizes practical applications of assessment methodologies to improve educational quality and program accountability.
