Judy Wajcman is the Anthony Giddens Professor of Sociology at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She holds a Visiting Professor role at the Oxford Internet Institute (OII), where she has held various positions since October 2005, including Research Associate and Senior Research Fellow. She is the Principal Investigator of the Women in Data Science and AI project at the Alan Turing Institute.
Her research focuses on the social study of science and technology, gender, and the impact of digital technologies on temporalities. Key works include classics such as The Social Shaping of Technology and Pressed for Time, which advocate for a sociomaterial approach to understanding time. She is a leading figure in Science and Technology Studies (STS) and gender studies, with her work translated into multiple languages.
Wajcman has been honored with the William F. Ogburn Career Achievement Award and a Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Geneva. She has also served as President of the Society for Social Studies of Science. Her contributions were recognized at the 2018 OII Awards, where she delivered a keynote lecture on evolving gender and technology studies.
Her involvement in academic communities includes the OII’s Summer Doctoral Programme (SDP), celebrating its 10th anniversary with a conference she participated in. She continues to engage in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of sociology, technology, and gender.
