Judith Mills is a Senior Lecturer in Primary Education at the University of Sunderland's Faculty of Education and Society. She transitioned from primary school teaching to academia, holding roles across Early Years, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2 in both high-deprivation and small rural schools. Currently, she leads the BA (Hons) Primary Education with SEND and teaches English and PE modules. Her mentorship focuses on preparing trainees for school placements, emphasizing practical readiness and professional development.
Her research interests include observational assessment in Early Years, phonics/grammar pedagogy in primary English, and addressing chronic illness challenges in educational environments. She holds a BA (Hons) in Primary Education and an MA in Early Years from Manchester Metropolitan and Leeds Metropolitan Universities, respectively.
Judith has contributed to the University’s new primary education programme and received the Vice-Chancellor's Teaching Fellowship Awards. Her career bridges classroom experience with academic mentorship, aiming to enhance teacher preparedness and student engagement.
