Judith Katzenellenbogen is an Associate Professor and Principal Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia (UWA), affiliated with the School of Population and Global Health and the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Research Centre (CERC). She holds an honorary position as a Research Fellow at the Telethon Kids Institute. Her career spans South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia, focusing on epidemiology, health inequities, and public health policy. She leads multidisciplinary research teams addressing cardiovascular diseases, particularly rheumatic heart disease and stroke in Indigenous populations.
Her expertise includes linked data analysis, burden of disease estimation, and health services research. She has authored the first epidemiology textbook tailored to the South African context (4th edition) and pioneered studies on stroke burden in Western Australia. Judith has secured continuous research funding since 2012, including NHMRC and Heart Foundation grants, and leads major initiatives like the StopStroke Synergy project and the Healing Right Way Trial.
Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being. She actively contributes to teaching in public health and Aboriginal health programs at UWA, supervising research students and fostering international collaborations for capacity building and research translation.
