Judith Harmey is an Associate Professor at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, Department of Molecular & Cellular Therapeutics. Her research focuses on angiogenesis, metastasis, and developing therapeutic targets for cancer. She has held roles including Junior Cycle Director at Perdana University-RCSI and Head of Biochemistry. She earned a PhD in Molecular Genetics and BSc in Biochemistry from University College Dublin.
Research interests include anti-angiogenic strategies, gene therapy, and metastatic mechanisms in breast cancer. Notable grants include funding from Breast Cancer Ireland and Science Foundation Ireland. Awards include Enterprise Ireland Collaboration Awards and the British Journal of Surgery Travel Award. She has supervised theses on topics like protease-resistant IGFBP4 variants and resistance to targeted therapies in breast cancer.
Teaching roles include Director of the RCSI USMLE Programme and Module Leader for Molecular Medicine. She has also been a guest lecturer at institutions like Trinity College Dublin and the University of Houston. Her work has been published in over 80 peer-reviewed articles, focusing on cancer biology, drug delivery systems, and tumor microenvironment dynamics.
