Dr Judith Fathallah is a Senior Research Associate at Lancaster University's Management School, specializing in Open Access (OA) publishing and scholarly communication. Affiliated with the Department of Organisation Work and Technology, her work focuses on sustainable and equitable models for academic publishing, particularly in relation to the Open Book Collective and Diamond OA initiatives.
Her research explores barriers to OA access for Global South scholars, challenges around Book Processing Charges (BPC), and community-led publishing ecosystems. She actively contributes to conferences and workshops addressing these issues, such as OTESSA 2024 and the National Acquisitions Group Seminar 2023.
Fathallah's recent publications emphasize transitioning to non-commercial OA frameworks, reducing financial burdens on authors, and fostering collaborative publishing practices.
