Professor Judith Buchanan is the Master of St Peter’s College, Oxford, and a Pro-Vice-Chancellor at the University of Oxford. She leads the College’s governance and community life, fostering academic excellence and student development. Her research focuses on Shakespearean textual and performance histories, silent film, and cross-disciplinary arts collaborations. She advises on BBC arts programs, co-adapted a 2018 Macbeth film, and runs 'Silents Now' to revive silent cinema.
Her academic roles include membership in the Oxford English Faculty and Worcester College. She chairs University committees like the Cameron Mackintosh Drama Fund Board and the Research and Innovation Committee. Internationally, she advises heritage institutions and theatre initiatives. Her work bridges academia and public engagement, emphasizing creative collaborations with artists and heritage organizations.
Awarded visiting fellowships at the Folger Shakespeare Library and University of Lausanne, she advocates for interdisciplinary projects. Beyond Oxford, she serves on boards for RADA and the Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission.
