Judit Marsillach

Dr. Judit Marsillach is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences at the University of Washington School of Public Health, holding the Sheldon D. Murphy Endowed Chair in Toxicology and Environmental Health since May 2021. Her research integrates biochemistry, environmental health, neurobiology, proteomics, and toxicology to investigate environmental exposures and oxidative stress in adverse birth outcomes and chronic diseases.

She earned a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University Autonoma of Barcelona, a PhD in Biochemistry from the University Rovira i Virgili (with honors), and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Her research spans the exposome, biomarkers of exposure and disease, paraoxonases, neurotoxicology, and early life exposures to pesticides, metals, and air pollution. She employs adductomics and proteomics to study impacts on Alzheimer's disease, cardiometabolic disorders, and developmental health, with emphasis on vulnerable rural communities facing disproportionate chemical exposures.

Recent publications demonstrate interdisciplinary integration of data science, molecular toxicology, and population health, focusing on exposure-disease mechanisms and biomarker discovery for environmental health disparities.

Dr. Marsillach mentors graduate students including Rothboury Doung (MPH, 2023), and is available for new Master's students starting autumn 2026. Her research is supported by NIH-funded projects on diesel exhaust toxicity, early-life stressors in agricultural communities, and VOC exposure biomonitoring in auto repair workers.

She actively partners with the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition and Northwest Toxic Communities Coalition, and serves on SoundBio Lab's Laboratory & Research Committee to advance community science and environmental justice initiatives.
