معرفی
Steven Ronsmans is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Public Health and Primary Care, Faculty of Medicine, KU Leuven. He specializes in occupational and environmental medicine, focusing on exposure to carcinogens, inhalation accidents, and respiratory diseases. His research integrates epidemiology, toxicology, and immunology to address occupational health challenges, particularly in mining communities and industrial sectors.
Research Interests:
- Occupational lung diseases (silicosis, asbestosis)
- Biomarkers for exposure assessment
- Autoimmune responses triggered by particles
- Health impacts of chemical exposures in vulnerable populations
Recent Projects:
- Nanoparticles as biomarkers for occupational carcinogen exposure (2025–2026)
- Long-term health effects of inhalation accidents (2024–2026)
- Mining-related lung diseases in the Katangan Copperbelt (2023–2027)
Publications: Recent work emphasizes silica toxicity, asbestos-related diseases in Africa, and exposure biomonitoring. His studies highlight diagnostic challenges in occupational settings and the need for improved preventive strategies.
Roles & Affiliations:
- Member of Leuven One Health Institute
- POC Safety Engineering and POC Arbeidsgeneeskunde committees
- Teaches occupational and environmental toxicology courses
