Juan Miguel Monterrubio Prieto

Dr. Juan Miguel Monterrubio Prieto serves as Full Professor in the Department of Spanish Philology at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), where he teaches courses in Spanish language and literature across multiple degree programs including Catalan Language and Literature, Spanish Language and Literature, and Modern Languages and Literatures.

His research focuses on Spanish lexicology, morphological systems (particularly gradative and aminorative prefixation), historical linguistics, and digital philology. He has made significant contributions to the study of Golden Age Spanish literature through critical editions of works by humanist Bartolomé Jiménez Patón, examining graphical-phonetic aspects, categorical morphology, verbal tenses, predicate structure, and vocabulary from this period.

Professor Monterrubio Prieto has been actively involved in major academic initiatives including coordination of the UIB's CORDE Group in collaboration with the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) for digitizing historical Spanish texts up to 1975. As a founding member of the Institute of Hispanic Studies in Modernity, he contributes to research on thought-literature relationships between 1500-1750, and participates in the 'Philology and Humanism in the Golden Age' research group.

His technological engagement includes work at the pioneering Hispanic Seminary of Medieval Studies (University of Wisconsin), where he explored computational resources for Spanish language teaching and word manipulation in educational contexts. More recently, he contributed to the 'Neómetro' project measuring neologicality and dictionary-worthiness of Spanish neologisms.
