Juan Garcia Rubio

Prof. Juan Garcia Rubio is a permanent faculty member at the Universitat de València, affiliated with the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Sciences and the Department of Didactics and School Organisation. His work centers on educational equity, curriculum design for at-risk students, and pedagogical innovation in geography and history education.

His research interests focus on understanding and addressing school failure through the lens of educational exclusion, particularly within vocational and compensatory education programs such as PDC and PCPI in the Valencian Community. He explores how curricula are designed and implemented for students in socially vulnerable situations, aiming to improve transitions from education to employment. His work is closely tied to innovative teaching practices and teacher training in social sciences.

Prof. Garcia Rubio is actively involved in two research groups: SOCIAL(S), which focuses on research and innovation in Geography and History teaching, and TRANSICIONS, which investigates the pathways from education to work in contexts of social vulnerability. These affiliations reflect his dual commitment to pedagogical content development and systemic educational reform.

He earned his doctoral degree from the Universitat de València in 2015 with a thesis titled El fracaso escolar desde la perspectiva de la exclusión educativa. El curriculum prescrito del PDC y del PCPI en la Comunidad Valenciana, supervised by Dr. Fernando Marhuenda Fluixà. His academic career demonstrates a sustained engagement with equity, inclusion, and curricular policy in secondary and vocational education.
