Juan Carlos Mendoza is an Assistant Professor of Voice and Opera at the University of South Dakota, Department of Music. A tenor based in Coralville, IA (formerly Sioux Falls, SD), he performs extensively across the Midwest as a soloist, choral singer, and educator. His stage roles include Aarón/Javier in Reinaldo Moya's *Tienda*, Freddy in *My Fair Lady*, and Tigranes in Cavalli's *La Doriclea*. He has collaborated with ensembles like the Lyric Opera of Chicago Chorus, Grant Park Music Festival Chorus, and Border CrosSing.

Recent performance highlights include solo roles in *The Messiah* (Handel), *Requiem* (Mozart), and *Passio* (Pärt), as well as premiering Thomas F. Savoy's *Masefield Songs* (2018). He is an advocate for the works of Mexican composers like Manuel M. Ponce and Carlos Guastavino.
