Joël Macoir is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Université Laval, Canada. His research focuses on clinical and cognitive neuroscience, particularly on language and cognition disorders linked to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, progressive primary aphasia, and other dementias.
His work involves developing and validating diagnostic tests for language and cognitive impairments, including tools like the Modified Location Learning Test (m-LLT), Judgment of Line Orientation Test, and dCALQ (screening for number processing deficits). He also investigates therapeutic approaches leveraging new technologies, such as telephonic and tablet-based rehabilitation for post-stroke and progressive aphasia.
His recent publications highlight normative data for cognitive assessments in French-Quebec and Turkish populations, emphasizing early detection of semantic memory deficits and the application of novel technologies in cognitive rehabilitation. Key journals include Archives of Clinical Neuropsychology and Applied Neuropsychology: Adult.
