João T. Cabral

Professor João T. Cabral is a faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London. He holds the P&G/RAEng Research Chair (since 2020) and serves as Associate Director of the Institute of Molecular Science & Engineering (2021–2024). His research focuses on soft condensed matter, particularly polymer blends, multicomponent systems, and microfluidics for soft matter processing.

• Physics degree, Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, Portugal (1992–1997)

His work explores polymer thermodynamics and dynamics using microscopy (AFM), light/X-ray/neutron scattering, and frontal photopolymerisation (FPP) for 3D device fabrication. Applications include interfacial tensiometry and high-throughput polymer mixture analysis. He is affiliated with multiple institutes, including the Institute for Molecular Science and Engineering and the Polymers and Microfluidics group.

His research team engages in scattering and spectroscopic tools to study morphology and stability of soft matter systems, alongside collaborations in cultural heritage and composites science.
