Professor Joao Cabral is affiliated with Imperial College London as a Professor of Soft Matter in the Department of Chemical Engineering and leads the Soft Matter Engineering theme. He also holds the P&G/RAEng Research Chair and served as Associate Director of the Institute of Molecular Science & Engineering (2021-2024).
- Alumnus of Instituto Superior Técnico (Physics degree) and Imperial College London (PhD in Polymer Science)
His research focuses on experimental soft condensed matter, particularly polymer blends, multicomponent systems, and nanoparticle-copolymer interactions. The group employs advanced techniques like AFM, microscopy, and neutron/X-ray scattering, combined with microfluidics for high-throughput processing and device fabrication via frontal photopolymerisation.
He has made significant contributions to understanding polymer thermodynamics and dynamics, interfacial tensiometry, and coupling characterization methods. His work bridges fundamental science and applications in soft matter engineering.
