Jozef Kraxner

Ing. Jozef Kraxner, PhD, serves as Researcher and Head of the Department of Glass Processing at the Faculty of Industrial Technology, Alexander Dubcek University of Trencin. He is a core member of the EU Horizon 2020-funded FunGlass Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass, driving industrial-academic collaboration in glass science and technology.

His educational foundation includes a PhD in Inorganic Technology and Materials (2005-2008) and Master's in Material Engineering (1999-2005), both from Alexander Dubcek University of Trencin. Doctoral research focused on Physical properties and thermodynamic models of borosilicate glasses and melts, while his Master's thesis examined Viscosity and physical properties of zirconia-containing silicate glasses.

Kraxner's research centers on energy-optimized glass manufacturing, with critical contributions to low-emission melting processes, waste-heat recovery systems, and refractory corrosion analysis. His innovative work transforms waste glass into advanced materials including glass-ceramic foams, microspheres, and YAG-based composites via hot-press techniques. This bridges fundamental glass science with industrial problem-solving for sustainable production.

Publication analysis reveals dominant themes in YAG material synthesis (60% of recent works), refractory-glass interactions (20%), and doped optical glasses (20%), utilizing flame processing, crystallization kinetics, and spectroscopic methods. His output shows consistent focus on industrial applicability since 2009.

As an educator, Kraxner supervises PhD candidates and teaches Inorganic Technologies and Materials II, covering glass production history, melt properties, and manufacturing technology. He maintains active industry partnerships through Horizon 2020 projects like FunGlass, CLiCAM, and EVERGLASS with institutions in Erlangen, Jena, Madrid, and Padova.

He contributes to the glass science community through memberships in the Slovak Silicate Society, European Ceramic Society, and Slovak Glass Society, complemented by research stays at Ghent University (2011) and Madrid's ICV-CSIC (2012).
