Dr. Joycelyn Burdett is an Assistant Professor of Fashion Design at Albright College, where she currently serves as Coordinator of the Design Studio. She holds a Ph.D. in Human Ecology with a specialization in Dress History from The Ohio State University, and B.A. and M.A. degrees in Clothing & Textiles: Design from San Francisco State University. Prior to her academic career, she worked as a pattern maker at PW Minor shoe factory and operated a custom historic clothing reproduction company in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Her teaching experience spans over 20 years at institutions including San Francisco State University, Evergreen Valley College, Kansas State University, and Villa Maria College, where she taught courses in apparel construction, pattern making, textiles, and history of fashion. Her research focuses on translating historical apparel customs, contexts, and construction techniques into modern design practices, with particular expertise in corsetry, millinery, and tambour beading. She is an active member of the International Textiles and Apparel Association (ITAA) and the Costume Society of America (CSA).
