Joyce Sylvester

Joyce Sylvester serves as a Lecturer of Voice in the Department of Music at the University of South Alabama, maintaining an active private studio while also holding an adjunct position at the University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts.

Educational background includes:

• Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of South Alabama
• Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of South Alabama
• Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi

Additional training occurred at Salzburg's Mozarteum (studying with Rudolf Knoll while employed by Landestheater-Salzburg) and privately in Vienna with Anne Rothgeb-Peschek.

Her artistic focus spans vocal performance, opera, and choral music, demonstrated through leading roles with Mobile Opera (including Verdi's La Traviata and The Story of Harriet Tubman) and collaborations with Mobile Symphony Orchestra. In 2007, she founded Bella Voce, Mobile's Premier Women's Chorus, acclaimed for its community representation and performances like the standing-room-only "Pearls" inaugural concert.

As an educator, she integrates professional performance experience into voice instruction at USA, emphasizing classical repertoire and community engagement through initiatives like Bella Voce's partnership with the Mobile Symphony in 2009.
