Dr. Joyce Coker is a Research Associate at Cambridge Public Health within the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge, serving as programme coordinator for the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) School of Public Health Research's public mental health programme focused on community-based interventions for older adults' wellbeing.
Her educational background includes a PhD from the University of Leeds (2015), where she employed mixed methods to investigate statin-use effects on health beliefs and behaviors among adults at risk of cardiovascular disease in South Yorkshire, England, and urban/semi-urban Nigerian cities, building on prior foundations in Human Physiology and Public Health.
Dr. Coker's research centers on improving care for frail older adults in community settings through public mental health initiatives, utilizing mixed methods and realist-informed approaches to evaluate community resource optimization. Her work addresses life-course ageing dynamics and translates evidence into practical solutions for mental health resilience in elderly populations.
As part of Cambridge Public Health and the NIHR SPHR, she collaborates with public health practitioners, clinicians, and community organizations to develop scalable models integrating local resources for enhancing mental wellbeing among aging communities, with emphasis on sustainable implementation for vulnerable elderly groups.
