معرفی
Jovan P. Antovic is a Professor of Clinical Chemistry and Coagulation at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery, Karolinska Institutet, a position he has held since May 1, 2022. He combines his professorship with a role as Chief Physician at the Medical Unit for Clinical Chemistry, Karolinska University Laboratory, Karolinska University Hospital. He leads the Clinical Chemistry and Coagulation research group and manages the KARMITH Core Facility (Karolinska Microscopic Imaging in Thrombosis & Hemostasis). Additionally, he serves as a Visiting Professor of Hematology at the Faculty of Medicine Nis and Kragujevac in Serbia.
Dr. Antovic received his medical degree in 1993 and specialist degree in Internal Medicine - Hematology in 1998 from the University of Nis, Serbia. He earned his PhD in coagulation/clinical chemistry from Karolinska Institutet in 2003 and became a specialist in Clinical Chemistry in 2011. He achieved Docent status (equivalent to Associate Professor) at Karolinska Institutet in 2009.
His research focuses on hemostasis and thrombosis, particularly studying the utility of global hemostatic methods and microparticles as potential biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment monitoring in clinical conditions associated with bleeding or thrombotic tendencies. He has a special focus on cardiovascular status in aging hemophilia patients. His work spans several areas including hemophilia research, diagnosis of Von Willebrand's disease, laboratory diagnostics of microangiopathies, and monitoring of direct oral anticoagulants.
Analysis of his publication history reveals a consistent focus on improving diagnostic methods for coagulation disorders, with particular emphasis on hemophilia management and the application of global hemostatic assays. His research bridges basic science with clinical applications, focusing on translating laboratory findings into improved patient care.
Dr. Antovic has authored or co-authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications and co-edited two editions of the 'Essential Guide to Blood Coagulation.' He serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis and is a Review Editor for Thrombosis in Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine.
Dr. Antovic actively supervises multiple PhD students and post-docs, including Maria Farm (working on venous thromboembolism), Yanan Zong (focusing on aging hemophilia patients), Roza Chaireti (studying hemophilia A with inhibitors), Maria Magnusson (researching liver disease-related hemostatic disturbances), and Iva Pruner (developing microparticle immunolabeling techniques). His research is supported by various grants, including collaborations with the University of Kragujevac in Serbia.
He leads the KARMITH Core Facility, which provides microscopic imaging services for thrombosis and hemostasis research, and is involved in multiple national and international projects focusing on both thrombosis and bleeding disorders.
