Jotte de Koning

Dr. Jotte de Koning is an Assistant Professor of Design for Sustainability Transitions at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, Delft University of Technology. Her research focuses on the intersection of design for sustainability and systems thinking, particularly in complex systems like agrofood systems, energy networks, and urban environments. She holds a PhD from TU Delft (2017) on Sustainable Food by Design, emphasizing co-creation with urban communities in Vietnam to promote sustainable consumption patterns.

Her academic background spans Industrial and Strategic Design Engineering, with interdisciplinary expertise in transition management, behavioral change, and participatory design. Key research projects include the GetGreen Vietnam initiative, the ENRGISED energy transition project, and the IDOLS study on creative collaborations in public sector innovation. She is also involved in the Systemic Design Lab and teaches courses on Design for Sustainability and Transition Design.

Research interests include systemic design, service design, circular economy, and leveraging design to drive societal transitions. She actively collaborates with international partners and has contributed to over 25 peer-reviewed publications. Her work addresses global challenges through innovative design methodologies that empower communities and foster sustainable practices.

Current projects explore social contagion strategies for energy transitions, behavioral interventions in household food waste reduction, and competency frameworks for circular economy design. She advises on interdisciplinary research teams and mentors graduate students in sustainability design innovation.
