Dr. Josie Vine is a Senior Lecturer and Program Manager of the Journalism Program at RMIT University's School of Media and Communication. She leads a team of eight academics and specializes in journalism history, public interest journalism, and hyperlocal media. With a PhD from RMIT (2009), she has extensive industry experience as a journalist in regional Victoria (1996-2006) and currently serves as a local government reporter for The Westsider.
Her research focuses on journalism's role in democracy, media history, and cultural studies. She is actively involved in scholarly associations like the Journalism Education and Research Association and the Melbourne Press Club. Her teaching covers journalism history, cultural theory, and urban semiotics.
Recent publications include studies on hyperlocal journalism's symbolic capital, newsroom design's cultural impact, and Australian media historiography. She has supervised PhDs in creative non-fiction, cinema studies, and journalism practices.
