Josiah Hester

Josiah Hester is an Associate Professor at the School of Interactive Computing within the College of Computing at Georgia Institute of Technology. His work focuses on sustainable computing, wearables, IoT, and ubiquitous computing with an emphasis on energy harvesting and culturally relevant technology design.

Research Themes: Dr. Hester’s research integrates hardware-software co-design to enable battery-free and low-power systems. His projects include batteryless UAVs, sustainable smart masks (VeriMask), and culturally responsive educational tools for Hawaiian immersion schools. He also explores human-centered wearables, environmental sensors for climate justice, and energy-aware computing frameworks.

Grants & Collaborations: His work is supported by NSF awards including DESC: Life-time aware design frameworks for sustainable edge devices, and collaborative research initiatives with international partners.
