Joshua Thomas is Departmental Lecturer in Classical Archaeology and Art at the University of Oxford. Educated at Oxford (BA, MSt, DPhil), he held the Lavery-Shuffrey Early Career Fellowship at Lincoln College and an Alexander-von-Humboldt Fellowship in Munich.
His research examines Greek and Roman visual cultures, with specializations in sculpture, Hellenistic art, and art-science connections. Recent publications analyze artifacts from Aphrodisias and explore image transmission in antiquity.
Teaching includes Greek Sculpture (600–300 BC), Hellenistic Art, and Art Under the Roman Empire. He serves on excavations at Aphrodisias, Turkey.
