Joshua Smith is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Communication Studies at Davidson College. His expertise lies in rhetoric, with a focus on environmental communication, public lands, and the environmental humanities. He teaches courses such as Space and Place, Public Memory, Public Speaking, and Environmental Rhetoric.

Smith's research investigates how public debates and symbolic communication shape perceptions of natural spaces, particularly through conflicts surrounding public lands. His dissertation analyzed discourse related to Bears Ears National Monument in Utah. Prior to Davidson College, he taught at the College of Wooster in Ohio.
