Joshua Pederson
Joshua Pederson is an Associate Professor and Department Chair of Communication Studies at the University of Alabama. He specializes in relational communication, transgressions, and communal coping. His research explores how communication patterns influence relationship dynamics, emotional well-being, and social support systems. Pederson holds a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa (2014), an M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2009), and a B.A. from Concordia College (2007).

His research interests include relational repair, supportive communication, and the role of social networks in coping with relational challenges. Pederson leads the Interpersonal Research Group at UA, fostering collaborative studies on interpersonal communication. His recent work examines political influences on relationships, suicidality disclosures, and biolinguistic analyses of intimate interactions.
Teaching includes graduate and undergraduate courses on quantitative research methods, relational communication, intercultural communication, and interpersonal support. He advises students on topics ranging from conflict resolution to hope theory in transitional periods.
