Joshua P. Scholl is a Lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences at Florida Atlantic University, where he conducts research in plant population ecology and conservation biology while mentoring students and teaching undergraduate/graduate courses.
His educational background includes:
- BS in Biological Science (minor: Geographic Information Systems) from Florida Atlantic University
- MS and PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Arizona
- Postdoctoral training at Chicago Botanic Garden and University of Utah
Dr. Scholl's research examines how environmental variability shapes plant life histories and the cascading effects on population dynamics and community ecology. His work bridges fundamental ecological theory with conservation applications, particularly in understanding species responses to changing environmental conditions through empirical field studies and modeling approaches.
In teaching, he implements active learning methodologies including debates, case studies, and course-based research experiences while maintaining a strongly inclusive classroom environment that honors student diversity. His mentoring philosophy treats students as colleagues, focusing on developing technical and professional skills for diverse career paths.
Outside academia, Dr. Scholl develops ecological education tools including animated explanations of foundational papers, designed a nature trail living classroom, and actively supports the Ecological Society of America's SEEDS program for diversity in ecology.
