Joshua Neukom is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UWL). He holds a B.S. in Chemistry from DePaul University (2004) and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Michigan (2011). Before joining UWL in 2015, he taught at Carthage College as a Visiting Assistant Professor and served as a Graduate Student Instructor and GAANN Fellow at the University of Michigan. His teaching responsibilities include courses such as CHM 305 (Organic Chemistry Laboratory) and CHM 103L (General Chemistry I Laboratory).
Neukom's research background focuses on synthetic organic methodology and organometallic catalysis, particularly the development of nitrogen-containing heterocycles and mechanistic studies of organometallic reactions. Though he does not currently conduct active research, his previous work contributed to advancements in these areas. He is actively involved in laboratory setup and curriculum development within the chemistry department.
Neukom’s career also includes a two-year internship with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ORISE program. He is certified as an advisor and holds a FirstGeneration badge, reflecting his commitment to student support. Outside academia, he enjoys activities like hiking with his dog, cooking, and humor-driven hobbies.
