Joshua L. Sturtevant serves as an Online Faculty Instructor at Vermont Law School's Online Learning Program, teaching Alternative Fuels & Renewable Energy and Energy Law & Policy in a Carbon-Constrained World. An energy industry veteran with over a decade of experience, he bridges legal expertise and clean energy commercial development.
His educational background includes:
- Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst
- Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School
Sturtevant's research centers on energy law frameworks and policy mechanisms driving renewable energy adoption, with emphasis on tax structures for clean energy stimulation and legal-commercial interfaces in carbon-constrained markets. His work explores regulatory pathways for solar integration and corporate strategies in utility-scale renewable transitions.
Professionally, he currently leads Corporate Development legal functions at Avangrid (an integrated utility operating across 20+ states), following commercial asset acquisition roles at Nexamp (Mitsubishi subsidiary), Energy Finance practice at Sullivan & Worcester, and inside counsel positions at Distributed Sun. He co-founded Renewable Energy Trust Capital and actively mentors cleantech startups through Cleantech Open while consulting for the DOE's Solar In Your Community Challenge.
