Joshua Howard is a Professor and Associate Chair of the Department of History at the University of Mississippi, within the College of Liberal Arts. He specializes in modern Chinese history and teaches courses on Chinese history, East Asia, and US-China relations.

His research focuses on China's revolutionary experience, particularly through participatory journalism and labor history. His book "We Workers" examines worker letters in the New China Daily (1938-1947), challenging assumptions about urban support for the Chinese Communist revolution. Another publication, Workers at War, analyzes class formation in wartime Chongqing.
Recent scholarly contributions include studies on child labor, song movements, and China's sonic nationalism. His work integrates historical analysis with interdisciplinary approaches to cultural and political studies.
