Joshua Gendron is an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology at Yale University. His research deciphers molecular mechanisms underlying circadian rhythms and seasonal adaptation in plants, with emphasis on ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation and metabolic daylength sensing. Funded by the NSF, his lab employs Arabidopsis genetics, proteomics, and transcriptomics to address climate resilience in crops.
Education:
- B.S. in Biology, University of California San Diego (2000)
- Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Stanford University (2008)
- Postdoctoral Training, UCSD (2013)
Research Focus: The Gendron Lab investigates how plants measure daylength to regulate seasonal processes like flowering and growth. Key areas include: 1) Ubiquitin-proteasome system dynamics in circadian timing, 2) Photoperiodic metabolic networks, and 3) Genetic engineering for environmental stress resilience. Recent work revealed independent photoperiod-sensing pathways for growth versus flowering.
Scientific Recognition: Awarded the NIH Ruth L. Kirchstein NRSA Fellowship. Research featured in Science, PNAS, and PLOS Biology.
Lab & Collaborations: Directs the Gendron Lab (https://www.gendronlab.com) with 5+ graduate students and postdocs. Collaborates with the Kay Lab (USC), Nusinow Lab (Danforth Center), and Yale Marsh Gardens.
