Joshua Foust is an Assistant Professor of Public Relations at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. He holds a Ph.D. (2024) from the University of Colorado Boulder, an M.A. from Johns Hopkins University (2019), and a B.A. from the University of Colorado Boulder (2006). His research explores strategic communication through video games in military contexts, gender theory, and public sphere theory. Foust has published in journals like Journal of Communication and Media, Culture & Society.
Professional Experience: Prior to Syracuse, Foust taught at CU Boulder since 2020 and worked as Communications Director for the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians (2019–2022). He also served as Insights Lead at the Karrikins Group, a Denver executive consulting firm.
Research & Awards: His work has been supported by a UC Boulder Dissertation Fellowship and a College of Media, Communication and Information grant. He won the 2023 AEJMC Top Paper Award. Active in professional organizations like AEJMC, ICA, and Society for Cinema and Media Studies.
Teaching: Focuses on public relations practice, theory, and social media strategy. Known for bridging academic research with industry-relevant insights.
