Joshua E. Medow is a tenured Professor of Neurological Surgery, Neurology, and Biomedical Engineering at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He serves as the Division Chief of Inpatient Neurology, Director of Neurocritical Care, Neurotrauma, and Chief of Inpatient Operations in the Department of Neurology. Previously, he held leadership roles at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, including Director of Neurocritical Care and Vice Chair of Quality. His work has significantly reduced mortality rates and healthcare costs in neurocritical care settings.
Dr. Medow holds an MD from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, an MSc and PhD in Clinical Investigation/Informatics from the University of Wisconsin, and completed neurosurgery residency and fellowships in critical care and endovascular neurosurgery at the University of Wisconsin.
His research focuses on AI-driven decision support systems, medical device innovation, and cost-effective healthcare solutions. Key projects include the 'Digital Intern' algorithm for blood management and startups developing smart CSF shunts and safer lumbar drain technologies. His lab integrates engineers, computer scientists, and clinicians to advance personalized medicine and healthcare efficiency.
Awards recognize his excellence in patient care, teaching, and research. He is quadruple boarded in neurosurgery, neurocritical care, and clinical informatics. His work emphasizes translational research, with over a decade of contributions to improving clinical outcomes through technology and informatics.
