Dr. Shelly D. Timmons is a Professor and Chair of Neurosurgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin, holding the Sanford J. Larson Chair in Neurosurgery. She specializes in neurotrauma, peripheral nerve disorders, and neurocritical care, with expertise in surgical and medical management of complex neurological conditions. Her clinical practice spans the full scope of neurosurgery, emphasizing functional restoration through advanced surgical techniques.
Dr. Timmons received her MD from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (1991) and a PhD from the University of Tennessee-Memphis (2002). She completed her neurosurgical residency and general surgery internship at the University of Tennessee-Memphis. Her research focuses on clinical trials, neurosurgical innovation, and patient outcomes, with extensive peer-reviewed publications and international lectures.
She has held leadership roles as residency program director, department chair, and assistant dean, fostering neurosurgical education and advocating for multidisciplinary care. Her professional affiliations include national and international organizations dedicated to advancing surgical care, research, and advocacy. Dr. Timmons is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS), with board certifications in Neurological Surgery and Neurocritical Care.
Her clinical programs include the Brain Injury Program and Spinal Cord Injury Center.
