A physician-scientist with MD, PhD, and MSc credentials, Dr. Brandstadter completed his medical training at Duke University and his residency and fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Brandstadter specializes in the treatment of Castleman disease and other rare blood disorders, with particular expertise in cytokine storm syndromes and histiocytic disorders. His research program focuses on understanding the role of lymphoid tissue stromal cells in immune dysregulation and developing better diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for patients with these complex conditions. Patient reviews consistently highlight his exceptional clinical skills and compassionate care, with one patient describing him as 'the best cancer doctor in the northeast' for rare blood cancers.
His recent publication record demonstrates significant contributions to the field, with numerous high-impact papers in 2023-2025 covering Castleman disease heterogeneity, cytokine storm mechanisms, laboratory artifacts in disease monitoring, and the immunological basis of inflammatory complications. Dr. Brandstadter's work bridges clinical care and basic science, with his laboratory research directly informing his clinical practice and vice versa. As Director of Clinical Research for the Center for Cytokine Storm Treatment & Laboratory, he leads efforts to advance understanding and treatment of these rare but serious conditions.
Dr. Brandstadter's work has important implications for understanding immune dysregulation more broadly, with potential applications beyond Castleman disease to other cytokine-mediated disorders. His research on lymphoid tissue stromal cells and their role in immune regulation represents a significant contribution to fundamental immunology with direct clinical relevance.
