معرفی
Joshua Caplan, PhD is an Associate Professor at Temple University, affiliated with the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture. His research focuses on plant-soil interactions in human-modified environments, including urban roadsides, disturbed forests, and coastal wetlands. He investigates how environmental extremes (salinity, nutrient changes, drought) affect plant physiology, soil structure, and ecosystem processes like carbon cycling.
Research Themes
- Plant responses to environmental stressors (salinity, nutrient enrichment, extreme weather)
- Urban green infrastructure (tree trenches, bioswales) performance and sustainability
- Soil engineering and modification for ecological resilience
- Application of computational modeling and spectroscopy to ecological studies
Education
- PhD in Environmental Sciences & Resources, Portland State University (2009)
- BS in Environmental Science, University of Rochester (2001)
Publication Trends
His recent work (2023–2025) emphasizes:
- Urban plant-soil interactions under climate stressors
- Green infrastructure resilience to salinity and compaction
- Spectroscopic methods for predicting plant traits
- Carbon dynamics in coastal and urban ecosystems
- Integrating agrivoltaics with vegetation systems
- Legacy effects of nutrient enrichment on ecological recovery
