معرفی
Dr Joshua Buxton serves as a Lecturer in GIS and Environmental Spatial Science and Research Associate within the Geography department at the University of Exeter. He conducts postdoctoral research at the Global Systems Institute, specializing in Earth system tipping points and resilience frameworks. As a core contributor to the Global Tipping Points Report 2023, he led sections on climate tipping point impacts and early warning signals for positive tipping points.
His educational qualifications include:
- PhD in Geography (University of Exeter)
- MSc in Climate Change Science and Policy (University of Bristol)
- BSc in Mathematics (University of Bristol)
Research focuses integrate geospatial methodologies with Earth system science, examining agroforestry impacts through remote sensing, vegetation patterning dynamics, and polycrisis intersections. Current work with the Earth Commission quantifies safe and just planetary boundaries while advancing resilience metrics for ecological systems. His expertise bridges geomatic engineering applications and climate adaptation strategies within physical geography frameworks.
As an educator, Dr Buxton teaches applied GIS and remote sensing modules, supervising undergraduate/postgraduate dissertations on terrestrial ecosystem monitoring and agricultural land analysis. He actively collaborates through Professor Tim Lenton's Resilience and Tipping Points research group and the Environmental Intelligence @Exeter network, driving interdisciplinary approaches to environmental crises.
