Dr. Joshua Burgess is a Visiting Professor in the School of Biomedical Sciences at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), within the Faculty of Health. His research focuses on medical biochemistry, metabolomics, and medical microbiology, with a particular emphasis on DNA repair mechanisms, cancer therapeutics, and protein interactions in oncology. He holds a PhD and dual bachelor’s degrees in Biomedical Science and Biotechnology from QUT.
His work investigates how proteins like Banf1, COMMD4, and ALDOA influence DNA repair pathways and tumorigenesis. Key areas include PARP inhibitor mechanisms, epigenetic regulation of DNA damage repair, and targeted therapies for lung and breast cancers. Collaborations with institutions like QUT’s Centre for Genomics and Personalised Health drive translational research in precision oncology.
Burgess’ recent studies explore the therapeutic potential of inner nuclear membrane proteins and the role of CDCA3 in enhancing chemotherapy efficacy. His research bridges basic science and clinical applications, addressing challenges like tumor resistance and drug sensitivity.
Supervision topics include UV-induced DNA damage responses, PARP inhibitor efficacy in ovarian cancer, and novel DNA repair protein characterization. While no explicit grants or awards are listed, his publications reflect active engagement in high-impact oncology research.
