Joshua B. Grinath is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Idaho State University, specializing in community and ecosystem ecology. His research focuses on the impacts of global change drivers (nitrogen deposition, climate change, species invasions) on ecological networks in grassland ecosystems.
- Ph.D. in Ecology & Evolution, Florida State University (2014)
- B.S. in Natural Resource Management & Applied Ecology, Cornell University (2004)
Research interests include:
- Trophic cascades and multi-trophic dynamics
- Ant-plant mutualisms and predator-prey interactions
- Ecosystem engineering by rodents and bears
- Climate change impacts on imperiled habitats
- Conservation applications in sagebrush steppe
Recent publications highlight effects of simulated bear predation on ant behavior, microbial responses to fungal pathogens, and long-term climate impacts on pollinator networks. Key projects examine nitrogen deposition dynamics, drought resilience, and sagebrush restoration.
Scientific awards include a US Environmental Protection Agency Fellowship during his Ph.D. He mentors graduate students in community ecology and leads field research across western North America.
